Year 2
“One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” (Malala Yousafzai)
Phonics
Children consolidate Little Wandle Phase 5 before learning spelling patterns and rhymes and Year 2 common exception words.
Reading
Children read phonetically decodable books in guided groups and develop comprehension through retrieval and inference questions.
Writing
Talk4Writing approach: We use high-quality model texts to explore the structure of fiction and non-fiction. Children then apply the vocabulary, sentence structures and writing techniques to produce their own writing. They use phonics and spelling knowledge, learn correct letter formation and begin joining when ready.
Maths
Children develop fluency and confidence in number and calculation through the Big Maths approach, while also applying their learning across wider maths, including shape, measurement, fractions and data. See website for more information
