Around School |

It may be the end of another successful school year, but life at Michael Faraday is forever moving forward with many events and activities taking place around the school as we look forward to the summer. Sports Day is always a great Faraday favourite for the children, parents and staff. Just look at the concentration on this young athlete’s face! |
The children of Key Stage 1 showed off their sporting talent with a morning of keenly contested events – they don’t come more competitive than the egg and spoon race! |
|
|
London 2012 may be coming around a little too soon for our KS1 competitors, but competition was fierce in the javelin event. The children throughout the school were each assigned a team, with precious points being at stake throughout the day.
|
We pride ourselves at Michael Faraday on our past sporting successes; the school has excelled in recent years at rugby, football and cricket, bringing back to Portland Street many sporting trophies. We can now add the sack race to our list of sporting achievements! |

The celebration of sport wasn’t restricted to only the children. We welcomed family and friends into the school, and then invited the adults to take part in their own race. Some of the adults took the competition more seriously than others. |
No Faraday Sports Day would be complete without the traditional staff race. The starting line boasted plenty of teaching talent, but perhaps some more work was required on the sporting side? It’s not about the winning, it’s the taking part that counts - anyone associated with either Year 2 or Year 4 came away cheering! |

Another fantastic Faraday Sports Day comes to a close. Congratulations to all our keen competitors, and thank you to all those who helped to organize and support the event. |
Having demonstrated their sporting success, attention turned towards the arts as our talented Year 6 children performed their end of year play. Acting wasn’t enough for our accomplished children; we managed to find some aspiring playwrights as Year 6 adapted and re-wrote High School Musical to become our very own Michael Faraday Musical.

|

|
Year 6 has been working on this production for a couple of months. After a successful dress rehearsal in front of the rest of the school, two shows were performed in front of the parents and other invited guests. Our children peaked at just the right moment, with some stunning individual performances. |
Meet the Faraday Wildcats – you wouldn’t want to mess with these guys on the basketball court! The plot centred around sporting excellence over singing talent. Plus no play would be complete without a romantic interest involved. |

The grand finale – some of us were left (almost) speechless! |
The final week of term is always a fun time around Michael Faraday. Year 4 was treated with a trip to the nearby Brockwell Lido for the day. It wasn’t quite factor 40 weather, but the children had great fun splashing around and swimming in the 50m art deco pool. Some of the staff even ventured into the icy water! |

Back at school and we celebrated the Michael Faraday Year 6 as their transition to secondary school commences. We believe that all of our Year 6 children are now ready for a new challenge. The school community reflected on their time at Portland Street with the tear-jerking Leaver’s Assembly. |
Each pupil was given a speech by their class teacher, reflecting on the challenges, achievements, and sometimes just plain funny situations that the children have presented us with over the years. |
|

|
We were pleased to see a large turn out from family and friends as the school community celebrated the final few moments of the children as Michael Faraday pupils. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! |
The Leaver’s Tea followed the assembly. Our departing Year 6 children ferried food back and forth to feed our guests. This is only a small way in that we can thank family and friends for supporting their children throughout their time at Michael Faraday. |
|
Coming Events |
And so another challenging, rewarding and highly successful Faraday school year comes to an end. Time to take some time out, and then we can achieve even more with your continued support in the new school year! Have a great holiday, and we look forward to seeing the children back at school on Friday 5th September.
